The brief

Good hardware, no system

A four bedroom house in Berkshire, 2,240 sq ft (208 m²), already full of quality kit: Somfy roller blinds, Velux blinds, a Honeywell thermostat, several air conditioning units, CCTV.

None of it talked to anything else. Twenty-plus remotes and a screen of manufacturer apps, each covering one product and nothing more. Wifi dropped on the first floor and barely reached the outdoor gym.

The client did not want a rip-out. They wanted the equipment they had already paid for to behave as one system, and they wanted their data to stay in the building.

Network first

Nothing else works until this does

Integration on an unreliable network produces an unreliable system. The first floor dropouts and the dead outdoor gym were fixed before a single device was integrated.

Three Ubiquiti UniFi access points, positioned from the layout rather than from guesswork, cover every floor, the garden and the gym on one continuous network.

Integration

Every remote in the drawer, for good

Somfy blinds, Velux blinds, the Honeywell thermostat, the air conditioning units, the CCTV and the televisions were brought onto one platform as they stood. No hardware was replaced to make integration easier.

Over 80 devices now answer to one interface. Blinds, heating and air conditioning share the same schedules, so the house stops cooling a room it is already heating.

The interface

One screen, shaped like the house

SH-Pro's 3D Spatial Digital Twin was built to this property. The screen shows the house, and control happens by touching the room rather than working down a list of device names.

Blinds, climate, cameras, alarm status and sensors sit on the room they belong to. Anyone in the household can use it without a handover session.

  • Runs on site, not in a datacentre: control continues if the internet drops

Security

Professional grade, one interface

A Texecom Premier Elite panel with multiple Capture motion detectors provides layered internal protection. Ten Hikvision cameras and a Reolink video doorbell cover the outside.

The alarm is armed, disarmed and monitored from SH-Pro alongside everything else, so security is not the one system that still needs its own app.
