Project Overview
The client was building a beautiful home in Spain, and at some point during the process, they reached out to us. They wanted to turn the house into a full smart home, not just some lights here and there, but something properly done. We liked the idea, and we were ready to jump in.
Initial Suggestions
We suggested a few things right away. One of them was mmWave sensors for presence detection — those work really well and aren’t visible like motion detectors usually are. We also went for addressable LED strips and dimmable lighting, since lighting played a big role here. The smart switches were a fun touch too, with gesture and multitouch options. You don’t just turn lights on or off — you can swipe, tap twice, even assign actions to different gestures.
Smart Lighting and Electrical Integration
Lighting was quite a central part of the project. It normally is. We ended up talking to the electrician company, who had already been hired by the client, just to make sure everything on the electrical side was done in a way that worked with what we were installing. It’s one of those things that, if not done right from the beginning, becomes a problem later. So we made sure they left enough flexibility for smart switches and controls to be added across the house.
Smart Security
Security came next. We proposed installing 12 Hikvision cameras, the newer ones that can show colour video even at night. That way, we didn’t need to rely on infrared. These covered both inside and outside the house, and they were hooked up to our Smart CCTV system. That added object and sound recognition, alerts, and other helpful features like longer event storage. One of the standout features for the client was the number plate recognition. They could track exactly which cars came onto their property, which gave them more peace of mind.
Energy Efficiency
They were also really focused on energy efficiency. Since the house was fully electric, we had a good base to start from. We set up automations that ran heating and hot water when the electricity cost was lower, and we made sure things like lights and appliances would turn off when nobody was around. We even added a holiday mode — when the house is empty for a while, everything powers down automatically.
Unified Control through the Mobile App
At the end of it all, we brought every smart device together into one mobile app. The client and their family can control everything from one place — lights, heating, cameras, all of it. And to make it easier to use, we also built an interactive 3D floor plan of the house. They can open the app, tap on a room, see what’s running and what’s not, and even check in on the cameras — whether they’re home or away.
